The Remembering Amelia project celebrates the life and work dance elder and movement maverick Amelia Itcush. As a dance artist, teacher, mentor, fitness pioneer, healer and one of the country’s finest somatic movement analysts, Amelia gifted her communities with an astonishing body of work and a viscerally rich library of information that has continued through oral transmission.

The ‘Remembering Amelia’ project celebrates the life and work of dance elder Amelia Itcush. As a dance artist, teacher, mentor, fitness pioneer, healer and one of the country’s finest somatic movement analysts, Amelia gifted her communities with an astonishing body of work that is relevant to all people looking to release movement potential, heal injury or create work.
Touring seven locations across Canada this interactive exhibit of drawings, movement toys, and video acts to serve as a public inquiry into the past and future impact of the Itcush Method.
A three day gathering at each location invites the public to take part in dance performances, workshops and conversations exploring a rich reservoir of body teachings inspired by Amelia Itcush. With special interest to artists, health practitioners, and those looking for alternatives to physical rehabilitation.
Open to all and funded with generous support by the Canada Council for the Arts, Saskatchewan Arts Board and Dance Saskatchewan.

Introduction to the Itcush Method

Facilitator: Kathy Morgan and Kana Nemoto
Gain a foundation in the Itcush Method through theoretical knowledge of the Balancing and Spiraling Forces as well as a practical knowledge of the exercises involved in the IT Method. Floor, standing and chair exercises will be covered with a certified teacher.

A chance to experience al aspects of the Itcush Method through mini one to one hands on table, chair, and exercise sessions with certified Itcush Method and Mitzvah Technique teachers and apprentices. Explore concepts of dynamic posture and the balancing forces in an informal drop in setting.
